“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it.” ~Edward R. Murrow

Edward R. Murrow was an American broadcast journalist. On March 9, 1954, Murrow and his news team produced a half-hour special titled See It Now: “A Report on Senator Joseph McCarthy”. Murrow used excerpts from McCarthy’s own speeches and proclamations to criticize the senator and point out episodes where he had contradicted himself. The broadcast contributed to a nationwide backlash against McCarthy and is seen as a turning point in the history of television.
